baby welch: 28 week progress shot.

happy 3rd trimester to me! all is well and smooth this week. my kidney pain has seemed to bump up a notch-but i just figure that's all due to a growing baby. i have been thinking a lot more about the actual labor and thinking about natural child birth. i am really nervous about my doctors here, my care thus far has not been very comforting. therefore, i have decided that as much as i can do on my own, the better i feel about how this baby is going to come into this world. i am seeing a new doctor tomorrow that i have really high hopes for. i'm up for any change at this point. i have also figured out that i am very granola when it comes to parenting thus far-baby wraps, cloth diapers, midwifes, home birth-all of these things reeeeeeally appeal to me.

the baby now weighs about 2 1/4 pounds, and is about 14.8 inches in length. he can now sense light, and hear clearly from out of the womb! he has grown eyelashes-i can't wait to see those sweet lashes!

I took my glucose test today...

my favorite things:
  • feeling the baby hiccup. there is something so human about the baby hiccuping. all the other movement i feel seems a bit alien-like, but hiccups? even i do that! plus it's something that last long enough for me to get addison to feel it too!
  • heating pads
  • my new gliding chair
  • pillows-galore.
  • visiting with my family members here for the week!
  • enjoying the last few days of my belly button-it is definitely on it's way out. i give it a week.
  • talking to other pregnant women, and realizing-i'm not crazy!
  • eating. all the time :) i am soooooo glad my appetite is back. it is such a relief to eat. i snack all the time, and really look forward to a nice home cooked meal. thanksgiving this year is going to be awesome.
my visitors this week are Jed, Emma, Zuzu, and Betty. it has been a blast. i am still mourning the fact that my mom wasn't able to come with them, as was the plan-she probably won't get to see me pregnant at all :( but i can't wait to see her in January. we had a joyous day on the beach yesterday. i've gotten to get to know Betty a lot more, she was born while we've been away-and she is a hoot! always smiling away. it really is so fun to have my siblings visit me-usually it's the other way around!

Best beach snack ever.

We even tried out a new restaurant at St. Pete's, which was a total hit. Authentic Italian pizza and garlic bread. Soooo yummy.

sister visits + a trip to the doctor.

At long last, my sister visited last week! Mylissa is my eldest sister, and has a family of 5 boys! She, her husband and 4 boys visited last week, and they packed everything in to the perfect trip! What's so great about Mylissa, is she has always been my second momma. When thinking about my childhood, I was so far behind my sisters in age that they all just kind of raised me. Mylissa holds true to that to this day! (She is also a nurse, and knows wayyyy too much about my body and it's malfunctions than anyone ought to-she's just so helpful!) I loved having her here and hopefully repaying her for the thousands of dollars worth of doctors advice she's given me over my pregnancy, but she just ended up spoiling me instead.

We had some awesome park days, a gorgeous day at the beach, and were just about to end with a bang at the water park, when I had a bit of an episode... While walking into the water park I started to sweat profusely, and thought I might faint. I told everyone I needed to lay down, and did so right in the sidewalk. I was having really intense pain in my left kidney-which is odd because all of my hydronephrosis pain has been purely on the right side. I had felt the pain in the middle of the night, but didn't think much of it. It returned with a vengeance in the morning when I got out of the shower, and I had thrown up my breakfast. I had some other signs that my UTI may be back, so I made arrangements to pick up an antibiotic after I dropped the family at the waterpark. By the time I was laying on the sidewalk in utter pain and had thrown up a second time in the bushes, I knew something else was up! My sister left her family to take me to the doctor and make sure I was alright. This turned out to be a kidney infection. Sigh.

I took a couple sick days, and am feeling sooooo much better. Where would I be without antibiotics? I am so grateful for my sister and her husbands care of me. Sometimes the Florida healthcare system really drives me insane, and scares me, but they fought for me and made sure that the right steps were taken.

I feel bad the trip ended on a sour note! But truly, one of the best moments of the last few months were the couple hours spent with my sister taking care of me. She fed me chicken noodle soup, did my dishes, bought me probiotics, taught me breast feeding 101, and even watched "call the midwife" with me :) I loved it.

I had a friend at work asking me about the gospel last week. She asked if the reasons Mormons have a lot of kids was because we didn't believe in birth control. Haha! I told her that it is simply because the best chance of happiness and support on the earth is found in our families, so we just make lots of em! So true. Family is the best.

Here's some pics of the trip:

I turned 24.

Last week I turned 24! And guess what, I can feel a difference in this one. Remember that question when you're a kid? "So, how does 10 feel?" Pretty much the same as 9 right? Well 24 already feels pretty different than 23. I worked on my birthday, something I'd never done before. Addison got me a baby glider-something that last birthday would have gotten him a night on the couch, now brought me more joy than I could have thought! He also gave me some money to do whatever I pleased with. I decided to go to Urban Outfitters, a favorite store I haven't visited since I've been to Florida! Guess what...either I've changed, or it has. I have never felt so old in my life! I was surrounded by 12 year olds! And here I am, clearly pregnant...haha well, needless to say, I walked outta there with absolutely no clothing, and the only thing I felt was worthy of my birthday money was a "les miserables" children's board book. Cutest thing ever. I finally resorted to Starbucks, where a pumpkin steamer was calling my name. I ended up in anthropologie, where I finally felt I had found my place. Unfortunately, it is also where I can't afford anything-but hey! I got to look at all the pretty things!

My sister and her family were here! So that night we had coldstone cake and celebrated my and my brother in laws birthdays!

All in all, it was a totally different birthday than 23. Lots more responsibility this year, I guess!

Don't worry, on my day off I spent a full day in the magic kingdom with the family. I guess I'm not too old yet ;)

24 week ultrasound.

It was sooooo good to see this "little guy" again this week. Baby welch is doing so well. They were not able to see everything they wanted to last time, so we got some great pics this time! He is a robust 1 pound, 10 ounces. His femur alone was measured at the 94th percentile! 4 chambers in the very healthy heart, no cleft lip, and no cataracts-isn't that insane they can see those kind of things?

I keep catching looks of myself in the mirror and shock myself. I have now been asked 4 times, because of my size, if I'm expecting twins...rude. Who says that? ("How far along are you? Oh really? You having twins?") The oddest is strangers in the park touching my belly...uhhhh, who ever said that was okay? My belly button is disappearing a bit more each day! So weird. I have to roll out of bed. And getting up from a chair is getting increasingly harder. I have gained 12 pounds now :)

I am feeling pretty good these days. A bit of nausea here and there, but nothing I can't handle. My kidneys flair up unexpectedly, which is rough. The ultrasound found that there are no stones in the kidney (they say they could have moved on), but that my right is still very swollen. The left has a bit of swelling as well. So they suspect that it is just hydronephrosis-where the baby is laying on my uteter, causing my kidneys to back up with fluid. Keep your fingers crossed that that is it!

Also, I got a sewing machine this week, and I am OBSESSED!!! It was 300$-on sale for one day only on amazon for 125$! It's my birthday next week, I splurged ;) I already completed my first project on it, and can't wait to start another.
