anniversary 2012.

This years anniversary was perfection. Since we had, "A Christmas Carol" on our actual anniversary night, we celebrated early. Using my birthday present from my in-laws, we got a nights stay at the Marriott at city creek. Now, this is the perfect winter date night. Because within walking distance (aka-2 blocks), we went to city creek, Cheesecake Factory, the candy windows at Macy's, and the temple lights-plus swimming at the hotel after! It was magnificent. Something that was different this year was a little question game we played through dinner. It sparked some really awesome conversation between Addi and I. And I learned some things that I didn't know about him! So, if your anniversary is coming up, or you have a date night this week, here were some of our favorite questions:

-name your top five pet peeves (not about each other, sillies!)
-name five things that make you the happiest right now.
-what are some of your biggest strengths?
-if you could live anywhere, where? and why?
-describe your family dynamic childhood vs. now.
-what do you think people most misunderstand about you?
-list ten things you hope to be remembered for.

This filled up a good 2 hours of conversation for us! My favorite was hearing Addison's testimony as we walked around the temple looking at the lights. He really is such a good man. Also, if the Cheesecake Factory menu intimidates you (as it does me), try the Thai lettuce wraps. Honestly, SO good.

a love letter to mail.

i don't know if you knew, but i have a love for mail. does that mean that i send it out as often as i'd like? no. in fact, if i had money to splurge, i may just spend it all on paper supplies and a collection of stamps. alas...but! since addison and i have gotten married, i have put some money aside for mailing things out, even when emailing would have been more efficient and cheaper, because i LOVE getting mail. plus, since i have my own personal graphic artist in the house, it would be madness not to create something new for every occasion i can justify. i also love addison's drawing skills...so i use those to my advantage often.

so, here is this years' christmas card, fully designed by addison. can you find the hidden mickey??
here are some other mailed favorites of mine, all hand drawn and designed by addison.

i'd be crazy not to use those addison skills, right?
oh, and Happy Anniversary mom & dad!

dear Addison

dear sweet Addison,
when i was this big, i dreamt of someone like you. i already knew what i wanted you to be:
  • tall
  • dark
  • handsome
  • a sweet spirit to be tender with my already tender heart
  • someone who loved to play
  • someone that shared my love of singing
  • someone who did the right thing even when its hard
  • someone who understood that sometimes you just have to drop everything and have fun
  • someone who would think i was funny
  • someone who didn't sweat the small stuff
  • someone that didn't point out every time i do something wrong
  • someone who knew people were more important than things
  • someone that i couldn't wait to have my own children with
  • someone that believed i could do anything i put my mind to (aka: being a disney princess)
  • someone who would just spend time with me
  • someone who enjoyed walks
  • someone who would play with my hair
  • someone who enjoyed talking but knew the importance of silence
  • someone whose strengths made up for my weaknesses
  • someone who looked like justin timberlake...

This December is definitely the most unconventional I have ever known! With all the preparation for the move and a show opening, we've tried our best to soak up as much family time, and keep as many traditions as we can. We've been crafting button dolls, nativities, embroidering...etc for Christmas gifts and orders. You'll be glad to know that we've found an apartment, a car, and tires. Three huge things off our list. Keep praying for us!

Also, we have some of the most selfless and generous parent around. On both Addison and my sides, we have had unbelievable help from our parents. We are so grateful! Who knew moving across the country was so complicated and expensive? Thank heaven for them, we truly wouldn't have been able to do it without them.

Opening went well! other than me ripping a gigantic hole in my dress right before a dance number. ha! that was fun! Come see 'A Christmas Carol' at Hale Centre Theatre, Tues Thurs Saturday cast! And go see "5 Carols for Christmas" at Centerpoint! My mother-in-law us hilarious and in the TTHS casts as well!

oh, tradition.

one of my favorite Christmas traditions from the past few years, has been the Creche' in Midway. This is a collection of nativities from around the world, made out of different materials, with different interpretations. There is always wonderful live Christmas music performed in the background. I just adore my time there. There is not enough time to see all of them! So i figure every year I see just a bit more. I noticed some wonderful additions this year. it is the perfect way to start off a Christ centered December. we took the Larsons and Landon with us this year! and it was so fun to see Charlotte pointing out all the ducks and horses and making their accompanying sounds! you can see past visits of the Creche' here and here.
 Nativity puppet show!
 This was my favorite one.
we also went to a gingerbread festival! award winning gingerbread houses everywhere!
 the "Up" house!
 "Tangled" tower!
also...is this real life?
Christmas Cards are underway-here's a little sneak peak of my homemade envelopes-out of gift wrapping.
Couldn't help sharing this classic pic! this is me and my cousin Jessie.

My goodness, can you believe in a month we will be gone? I can't. The stress has started to set in about this whole "moving across the country" ordeal. I always knew this is what we were hoping for, but you couldn't plan for it! And now, it's like we've had to rethink a lot of things. So weird to think we won't have to endure the bitter January winter. We have no room to pack any potential Christmas gifts for each other, so a second car to carry all our old stuff to florida will be both our Christmas present. All of the winter clothes we've just gotten out will go right back to storage. We've had to tweak our Christmas plans to accommodate our last goodbyes to everyone as we leave the 26th. It's just bizarre. Our minds have totally undergone a shift, and everything I was focused on a week ago, I can't even remember.

Finding an apartment? STRESSFUL! But you know what? We are close. It's amazing who comes out of the woodwork to help you when you need it. We now about a dozen contacts in Florida, recently moved, etc who are helping us find the ideal place as we will be blindly moving down to Florida to a place we have never seen! All I can say is that it is really fortunate that we went on vacation down there a couple weeks ago or I would really be freaking out. Thank you again Welches!

I am very good at writing lists. So I have successfully written down everything we need to get done before we go, and given myself dates they need to be completed. I add to this list constantly...which doesn't help... I feel like I am eating a whale! They are all such huge tasks! Emptying out storage, buying a car, buying new tires... Gah. But we really have so many people willing to help! Almost to many! It's awesome to be surrounded by such wonderful family and friends. I know we will find wonderful people in Florida too. I pray at night that we will find our Florida versions of the Larsons and Mosses. Everyone I've talked to has said that the wards in Florida are incredible. It will be so great to have a ward full of young people who have the same kind of crazy schedule and understand how unpredictable it can be to be a performer. And most importantly that its not a hobby, but a job for us.

So, please be praying for us! We are really so inexperienced in this whole moving, car buying, fees everywhere business! We will truly need all the help we can get.

The good news? I'm not even worried about the job! I'm just super stoke for that! The lady I've been communicating with about the job is so nice and helpful, and just so excited for me. She cant wait to get me started. It's all the preparation beforehand in getting down there that I'm so worried about!

Anytime I get too stressed I just turn to Addison and say, "what's the first ride we are going to ride as employees of Disneyworld?" And we talk about pirates of the Caribbean, the haunted mansion, Ariel's grotto, eating at Cinderella's castle. We talk about date nights watching the fireworks and eating mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches from Sleepy Hollow. We talk about all the people who are already planning on visiting us. We talk about the pool in our apartment complex that we can visit anytime we like. I think about the little girls faces that are going to light up when they see the fin!

It's going to be a year to remember.

Ps- look at the adorable Christmas ornament Addison got me. He loves me.

much to give thanks for.

it is finally time to make the announcement! Addison and I are moving. to florida. to work in Disneyworld! i am going to be friends with Ariel and Pluto, and am so excited. we move right after Christmas and will hopefully start work Jan 1st 2013. we are planning on Addison auditioning right when we get there and finding a job similar to mine ;) honestly? i'm scared out of my wits. not so much about the job and change...mostly about the move. oh, how i hate moving. i think Addison and i have lived in 6 different wards since we got married...i hate hate hate being unsettled and scattered, more than anything. so the next month-sorting through our stuff deciding what to take and what to leave behind is going to be very tough for me. and moving into a place i've actually never been in...that's going to be tough. but i know that the Lord has had his hand in this job every step of the way, and he has a plan for us. so, we will move forward, do good, and trust God.
in other news, our turkey trot in Midway was magnificent.

even good things must end.

Well, dang. Our vacation has officially come to a close. I am sitting in the Orlando airport writing this and wishing I was going the opposite way! Our trip was absolutely amazing though. It was so good to get closer to the Madsens, to get to know Truman more, and spend some quality time with the fam. This was my first real vacation with the Welches, and it was such a different flavor of fun. I love that there's no right way to do things, especially vacations :)

So now we return to snow, "A Christmas Carol", and work. But I can't wait for hot chocolate and thanksgiving!
